Hello my Burner lovelies,
Welcome to a revived Recompression full of New Possibilties!
Great news is that we now have access to more common spaces at Camp Elphinstone than we ever have, since they built staff housing & given us back more options!
Here's your chance to dream up some ideas for how to best use these spaces for the benefit of the event. Read on!

WHAT COMMON ART INSTALLATIONS?
If you have an idea for a permanent installation (meaning all weekend, eg. a dance floor... not a workshop), please let us know what it is! It could be an activity (eg. sound stage), a chill space, or even theme art or decor.

Note: please direct workshop proposals via the Workshop Pod page at: participate/workshops

WHAT SPACES?

The following indoor common spaces are available for our use at Recompression:

  • Moose Lodge - As per usual, our main collaborative decor project is the Moose Lodge. It takes all of us to make this amazing space happen! This year we have an even bigger decor vision team, whose planning is already underway. Stay tuned for the Theme Announcement & check the decor pod page to find out how to get involved: /participate/decor

  • The Long House Dining Hall - limited to wall art only, since the entire hall must be useable for meals during mealtime.

  • The Health Centre (last year's First Aid / Peer Support / Ranger HQ) is available. It may not be committed to these again - if any of you has a killer idea on how to use this space, please let us know! The Health centre has heat and power, two small rooms and a great room with kitchenette, and a bathroom enclosed. See photos on the website.

  • The Castle - This is a 22ft x 18 ft great room, along with a 10ft x 18ft side room. There is limited existing power and wood heat in the great room only.

  • The Art Room - Beside the Moose Lodge, this was last year's chill space. It is unheated, but has power and a sink. Sound bleed from Moose Lodge is huge.

  • NEW: The Loft -Above the Moose Lodge - this was not available last year. See attached photos. This is heated and powered. It has been used for Chill space some years past.

  • NEW: Lodge #1 - Also not available to us last year, this is in the vicinity of the other lodges. It has two 18 x 20 great rooms, connected at the front by a corridor with two additional 8 x 14 ft rooms, and connected at the back by a second corridor with a kitchenette and a pair of bathrooms. This space is heated and powered.

Note: Lodge/cabin common spaces are not included in this process. Please see the Theme Cabin pod page for details: http://www.recompression.com/participate/theme-cabins

HOW DO I APPLY?
Please fill out the application on the Placement Pod page no later than 5PM on Friday, February 26th: http://www.recompression.com/participate/placement

HOW AND WHEN ARE THESE SPACES CHOSEN?
Between 5PM Friday February 26th and the next Recompression Meeting at 7PM on Wednesday March 3rd, a focus group will review applications for space and generate a shortlist of proposals for review by the Recompression committee. The committee will evaluate and finalize the proposals at the March 3rd meeting. If you wish to be involved in the decision-making process, please contact Simon (techdirector at recompression dot com) to find out how!

HOW AM I MOST LIKELY TO GET MY PROJECT PLACED?
Priority will be given to well-defined projects that will interest/engage as many Recompression participants as possible, that utilize the theme, that are realistic in scope, that are flexible in terms of space/power/heating requirements, and that are buildable by the people making the proposal. We are not looking for ideas that the proponents aren't willing to build!

Note: the large scale art grant funding has already been allocated... additional small grants can be requested for these projects, although it is expected that these projects can be built cheaply, or with additional funding contributed by the proponents. For more information on art grants, please go to  participate/artgrants.

Thanks and let's get building!
